The „Deutsches Kinderhilfswerk“ has been fighting for children’s rights and against child poverty since 1972. The charity organisation wants to change the lives of the children in our country with a large number of projects covering topics like child policy, child poverty, child friendliness or the creation of environments for playing and exercise.
The project „Motion Sites“ aims to promote the motoric, social and cognitive development of children. The goal of this scientifically developed concept is to motivate children to play together and have fun exercising.
The „motion sites“-concept promotes the creativity and own initiative of the children by encouraging them to create their own dynamic worlds of motion: they can arrange and change simple wooden components like boxes, boards, and beams at will. That way they create dynamic environments which can in turn be used as playgrounds and monkey bars.
The „motion sites“ can be used in rooms and corridors as well as on school grounds and are particularly suitable for children at kindergartens and elementary schools.
The Sky Foundation put a smile on the face of children in two social institutions and an elementary school in Berlin who are happy about their new toys. The Sky Foundation has provided financial support for the “Yellow Villa”, “Babel e.V”, and elementary school “An der Marie” which allows these institutions to buy one “motion site” each.
Yellow Villa is a creative and education centre for children and teenagers and aims to convey media competence in the scope of several school projects as well as leisure time- and holiday offerings. The centre offers various courses like for example film courses that show children how films are produced: The children write the script, get to know the technology, work together as a film team and even cut the film. The completed production is then broadcast and submitted for participation in competition. A dancing and exercising room provides additional fun and opportunities to let off steam – this room will be equipped with a “motion site” very soon.
Babel e.V. (registered association) promotes understanding and tolerance for different cultures among children and teenagers according to the motto: “many different cultures are adding to society as a whole “. Men and women representing 12 different nationalities work together with the children and teenagers on spare time activities. The district Berlin-Hellersdorf which is socially challenged to a large degree has a particular need for the promotion of exercise for the children who will have the opportunity to further develop their motoric skills with the new “motion site”.
Elementary school „An der Marie“ located in Berlin-Kreuzberg is an integration school with pupils from mostly socially deprived families. The institution has a wealth of experience with the integration of children with impairments or learning difficulties as well as problems in the fields of emotional and social development. The motion site is and has always been a joint project and promotes team spirit and integration. The 464 pupils can soon look forward to a new free-and break-time facility.
