Fit like a pro

“Fit wie ein Profi” (“fit like a pro”) successfully concluded in Munich with a big finale on 21st June 2008 as the Sky Foundation’s first nationwide project. The Foundation, together with its partners Karstadt sports and the playground equipment manufacturer eibe, toured through five German towns from March to May to emphasise the meaning of movement for the physical and mental fitness of children and young people.

35 kids from over 500 participants who passed the fitness course in the Karstadt sports branches in Leipzig, Dortmund, Berlin, Hamburg and Munich were able to enjoy a very special highlight: the 6-12 year olds got first-hand professional tips at the “Fit wie ein Profi” final at the Munich Marienhof and trained with former top-class athletes. DFB Director of Sports Matthias Sammer, high jump word record holder Carlo Thränhardt, ice hockey legend Erich Kühnhackl, Olympic decathlon champion Christian Schenk and the NHL pro Marco Sturm were the stars who appeared in person. The famous presenters Alexandra Polzin, Patrick Wasserziehr and Nela Panghy-Lee also cheered the children on.

The training was led by Andreas Kornmayer, FC Bayern München’s youth athletics coach. Each of the eight groups of children was supported by a famous mentor. In the following Socca5 tournament, the teams could then show what they were made of.

A colourful general programme characterised by sports, fun and games – and another highlight: a tour through the Allianz Arena – made the “Fit wie ein Profi” final a fantastic weekend experience for all the children and their families.
